Beginning January 1, 2013, all homes built in South Carolina will have to comply with the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code.
2012 NC Energy Code Resources
The North Carolina Building Code Council has recently adopted amendments to the 2012 building code that will increase the energy efficiency of all residential and commercial buildings constructed in the state. As of March 1, 2012, it became mandatory to meet the NC Energy Code. These changes will have an impact not only on builders and subcontractors, but also on building suppliers, architects, engineers, and home energy raters.

Is this a new requirement on ALL new homes being built now?
Yes. The 2012 NC Energy Code and South Carolina Energy Code requires that all systems in all new homes be tested. Section 403.2.2 in the NC Code discusses the duct sealing/testing requirements. You can view the 2012 Energy Code online by clicking here.
