Incentives for energy-efficient new construction! Opportunities are back, and it’s taking the place of the once known Home Advantage Program that Progress Energy use to offer.
A brief overview of this program shows that builders have two different options to participate in.
Option 1: The Equipment Incentive
This is gained by installing qualified heat pump water heaters, high-efficiency HVAC systems, and air conditioners.
Option 2: HERO Code & HERS Rating
Currently, this is an optional direction of the 2012 NC Energy Code that was adopted and enforced starting March 1, 2012. The incentives for this option ranges from $1,000 – $4,000. The incentive dollar amount is based on meeting the HERO Code plus meeting a certain HERS score range. A long with the incentive there is an option for builders to offer a Heating and Cooling Energy Usage Limited Guarantee to home buyers.
